Here is everywhere I’ve gone to this first week in Alella/Barcelona. I hope to provide tips along the way but any questions y’all might have don’t hesitate in contacting me. (***Note: I am in no way an expert)
Playa El Masnous
About a 30 minute (if you don’t get lost) stroll from my place in Alella. The beach didn’t have many people on it, but it was a Wednesday afternoon. The water is clear, but careful as you enter since you do sink into the wet sand a bit.
There’s a long stretch away from the water where I saw many people go for runs, bike rides, or nice afternoon walks.
I definitely hope to walk the shore again soon despite the cooler weather that approaches.
Barcelona Stops:
Placa Catalunya
The bus from Alella drops me off a couple block away from this plaza. It’s basically the center of the city.
On Friday afternoon, students ready for the weekends and tourists with suitcases ready for adventure (or lost on the way to their hotel) gathered around. Little kids ran around chasing pidegeons. Never being one with birds, I was terrified.
Sunday morning, the overcast turned the mood a little gloomy, but it was still a pretty sight in my opinion. I saw less suitcases out and about, but more umbrellas and maps.
Playa Barceloneta
That same Friday, I met up with a native to get some information on the culture and a tour. This led to checking out the shops, the boardwalk, and the beach. My favorite part? The sunset.
La Basílica De La Sagrada Familia
Saving the best for last, La Sagrada Familia actually took my breath away as soon as I walked through the entrance. I was hesitant to spend money on the tourist attraction, but it was worth it. (Plus, I got a good deal for a general admission on Tiqets.com for anyone who’s thinking of going one day.)
The building’s enormity alone can silence you. But the painted glass and all of the intricate details brought tears to my eyes. I just felt at peace.
There are pews you can sit in. Not knowing there was a separate section dedicated to prayer where you can’t take pictures or talk, I sat in a pew and prayed. But before doing so, I just thanked God.
I gave thanks for accompanying me on this trip, making sure I got here safely, giving me the patience and levelheadedness needed to navigate my days. I gave thanks that I’ve been able to talk to my mom every day since arriving, and that she’s moving forward with her own goals. I gave thanks that my sister is being supportive and helping out any way she can. I gave thanks for my friends who have reached out to me and made sure I made it safely, especially my closest friends, Shea and Ceci, who have messaged me every day. And I gave thanks to everyone who has supported me in any way.
I walked into the structure feeling in awe of its grandness. I walked out in awe of the blessings life has given me. And for that I am thankful.
